Arrival stops explained
Piazzale Roma (Venice)
Piazzale Roma is Venice's main road transport terminal. It is the point where road vehicles, including airport buses, terminate. Buses cannot continue into the historic pedestrian and canal area, so from here you continue on foot or by water.
Onward transport from Piazzale Roma
- Vaporetto (water bus): ACTV vaporetti connect Piazzale Roma to the Grand Canal, the railway station and stops across the historic city. Buy a ticket or pass before boarding and validate it.
- Walking: Many central accommodations are within walking distance. Allow time for luggage, bridges and narrow streets when estimating your walk.
- Water taxi: Private water taxis offer a faster, more expensive door-to-water option. Confirm the fare and boarding point before traveling.
Mestre (mainland)
Mestre is the mainland city directly across from Venice. The airport bus arrives at Mestre railway station, a major rail interchange with frequent trains into Venice Santa Lucia (a few minutes) and onward national connections.
Mestre is the better destination when your hotel is in Mestre, you are staying elsewhere on the mainland, or Mestre railway station is more convenient for your onward journey.
Which stop should I choose?
Choose Venice / Piazzale Roma if:
- your accommodation is in Venice historic center
- you are continuing by vaporetto
- you need Santa Lucia railway station and are comfortable crossing or using local transport
Choose Mestre if:
- your hotel is in Mestre
- you are staying on the mainland
- Mestre railway station is more convenient for your onward journey
How to read the timetable
Airport bus timetables list departure and arrival times for a specific route and validity period. Reading them correctly helps you pick the right bus for your airport and destination.
Key points to check
- Airport departure vs arrival time: confirm whether a column shows the bus leaving the airport or arriving at the destination.
- Venice vs Mestre destination: the same route can serve both. Make sure the time you read matches your chosen destination.
- Weekday vs weekend: some routes have different schedules on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Check the day that matches your travel date.
- Direction: airport-to-city and city-to-airport times are listed separately. Use the column for your direction of travel.
Timetable changes and seasonal variations
Operators update timetables periodically and may adjust frequency or running times for seasons, holidays or operational reasons. The validity period is printed on the official timetable. A previously checked schedule may no longer be current.
Check the official timetable before travel
Always verify the current timetable on the operator's website shortly before your trip. A printed or saved schedule can become outdated, and last-minute changes can affect your departure.
